Big sales growth boosts Alcon’s profit

Alcon boosted its profit in the year’s third quarter, as worldwide sales climbed 11 percent across its three main product lines.
Earnings rose to $415.3 million, or $1.38 per share, according to financial results released Wednesday by the Fort Worth-based eye-care giant.
The performance amounted to a 29 percent increase in profit over the third quarter of 2006, when one-time charges were factored out of the equation.
Before the financial report was released, Alcon’s shares (ticker: ACL) closed down $1.73 Wednesday, to $146.60. Read more
